Most people would agree that the jewel of Elkhart Lake is our beautiful crystal-clear lake. Understandably so, we focus a lot of attention on lakeside activities like watersports, Tiki Bar, Lake Deck lakeside music, dining alfresco, along with a myriad of outdoor activities like hiking, biking, golf, motorsports racing, etc. Wisconsin summers are short, so we want to soak up as much outdoor time as we can!
This summer has started out with a bit more rain in the forecast. But never fear, Elkhart Lake is an All-Weather destination. We have a great collection of things you can do rain or shine.
Indoor pools – If you can’t be in the lake, you can still get your laps in or grab your friends for an old favorite – Marco Polo. Indoor pools are available at both The Osthoff Resort and Shore Club and can be hours of family fun!
Arcade Games – I know….when we go on vacation we want our kids outside running around- unplugged from screen time – I’m with you! But when the rain persists, you can engage your whole group with some air hockey, pinball, pool, foosball and of course some great arcade games like the new VR Godzilla game in The Osthoff Resort’s Arcade.
A good book – a must when we travel! If you forgot to pack one, there are a few spots in town with some good reads! You can find both fiction and nonfiction options at Gift’s of Grace and the Elk Trader at the Osthoff Resort. I love browsing through home decor and cookbooks too. You’ll find nice options for both at Gina’s Fine Gifts and Framing and Nordic Accents. Then off to find a cozy fireplace, quiet nook or to the pool area and enjoy some vacation reading.
Kids Club – If you and the kids need a break from each other, the Kids Club at The Osthoff Resort has you covered. With a variety of indoor kid’s activities, you’re sure to find the perfect fit like Tiny Chefs, Tie-Dying & Cup Cakes, Arts & Crafts and Build & Construct. They even have a Movie Night! Be sure to register, as participation may be limited.
Elkhart Lake a Public Library – We are so fortunate to have a great library with a plethora of great Summer Library Programs for Youth, Teens and Adults. Located one block from the Village Square, it is easy to find and super friendly to visitors. You might event consider getting yourself a library card, especially if you visit us regularly. But no card is needed to participate in programs.
Aspira Spa at The Osthoff Resort – Nothing says vacation like taking time to relax and pamper yourself! Aspira is the perfect place to dial it down and take care of YOU. With the wide variety of signature services, you’re sure to find a few to fit your preferences. Prior to or following your services, be sure to plan for extra time in the sauna, whirlpool, and meditation sanctuary areas. Then finish off your visit in the Spa Café with a delicious smoothy and healthy bite to eat.
Shopping– always a sought-out vacation activity. Rain or shine, you’ll enjoy the collection of beautiful shops available in Elkhart Lake. You’ll find great women’s and men’s activewear apparel at Elkhart Lake Outfitters and spiritual wellness products and programs at Intuitive Balance. Visit Two Fish Gallery and Schamberger Gallery for Fine Art and Crafts. Stylish boutique clothing and products at Lake Threads & Field, Aspira Boutique and Gina’s Fine Gifts and Framing. Home décor at AspenOak and Gifts of Grace. Take home a few uniquely Elkhart Lake gifts from Small Town Big Family. Don’t miss Road America’s Paddock Shop and Quit Qui Oc Pro Shop for you golf and race apparel and gifts.
Wade House Historic Site – You’ll step back in time as you explore this beautiful property. View the Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum, Wisconsin’s largest collection of carriages and wagons. Visit the 27-room Wade House stagecoach inn as it comes to life with costumed guided tours. Don’t miss the expansive grounds where you’ll also see the Herrling Sawmill and Dockstader blacksmith shop.
Cheese Please – If you’re a fan of WI Cheese, then you’ll want to check out Henning’s Cheese in Kiel! As you traverse the county roads from Elkhart Lake to Kiel, you can’t miss the beautiful rolling landscape and dairy farms. Much of the milk in our area goes to local cheese makers like Henning’s Cheese, a fourth-generation cheese makers who takes great pride in their craft. If you get there before 10:00 a.m. you’re likely to see the cheese making process, visit their museum and of course try some delicious cheese.
Dining in Elkhart Lake – Last but certainly not least is the amazing dining scene available in this compact village! With 20+ Elkhart Lake Restaurant to choose from, we’re confident you’ll love the variety of casual and fine dining options, along with pubs, café and outdoor on the go options. Be sure to set aside time to visit Vintage Elkhart Lake Wine Shop for a fun Wine-O-Matic visit with friends. Or check out Switchgear Brewing with an extensive list of local brews like Pontoon Pounder and Resorter Red. You won’t be disappointed!
Rain or shine, Elkhart Lake offers a variety of great activities for the whole family.
